You are right tacky it was, I was in a pissy mood.
As for the stacks of negatives, I would digitize them. Most old school photographers I know have done the same with theirs, then made prints from the file on archival papers; many labs can handle this, I can recommend a few.
There are several forums I have run into that speak to this method; I will pass them along if I can find them.

Or any of the Epson film scanners are great for this task.
